چکیده

This paper deals with spacecraft autonomous navigation in deep space missions. The considered problem is that of spacecraft localization based on angular measurements. The dynamic model of the spacecraft accounts for several perturbing effects, such as Earth and Moon gravitational field asymmetry and errors associated with the Moon ephemerides. The measurement process is based on elevation and azimuth of Moon and Earth with respect to the spacecraft reference system. Distance measurements are not employed. Position and velocity of the spacecraft are estimated by using both the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). The performance of the filters are evaluated on an example of Earth-to-Moon transfer mission.

Motion Planning of Intelligent Explorer for Asteroid Exploration Mission

In-situ observations of minor bodies like asteroids or comets are scientifically very important because their sizes are too small to have high internal pressures and temperatures, which means they should hold the early chemistry of the solar system. In recent years, some rendezvous or sample-return missions to small body have received a lot of attention in the world. To date, the missions of NE...

Autonomous Optical Navigation (AutoNav)

The first flight of NASA's New Millennium Program, DeepSpace 1, will include a new navigational technology: anautonomous optical navigation system. The D S 1Navigation system will be the first use of autonomousnavigation in deep space. The task for this system is to 1)perform interplanetary cruise orbit determination, usingimages of distant asteroids, 2) control and ...

Automating Operations for a Network of Communications Antennas

The Deep Space Network (DSN) [1] was established in 1958 and since then it has evolved into the largest and most sensitive scientific telecommunications and radio navigation network in the world. The purpose of the DSN is to support unpiloted interplanetary spacecraft missions and support radio and radar astronomy observations in the exploration of the solar system and the universe. There are t...

SURF-Based SLAM Scheme using Octree Occupancy Grid for Autonomous Landing on Asteroids

As space agencies are currently looking at Near Earth Asteroids as a next step on their exploration roadmap, high precision autonomous landing control schemes using passive sensors (i.e. cameras) will be required for upcoming missions. Attempting to address this need, the Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) system presented here is an online visual navigation scheme that relies on only one ca...

Water-Current and IMU Aided AUV Localization in Deep Mid-Water

Survey class Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) typically rely on Doppler Velocity Logs (DVL) for precise navigation near the seafloor. In cases where the distance to the seafloor is greater than the DVL bottom lock range, localizing between the surface where GPS is available and the seafloor presents a localization problem, since both GPS and DVL are unavailable in the mid-water column. Pre...
